The Vice President of the United States (VPOTUS, Veep, or VP) is a high-ranking government official just below the President of the United States. The Vice President is also a constitutional officer in the legislative branch of the federal government of the United States as the President of the Senate. The office is currently vacated with no incumbent. The last individual to serve as Vice President was Peter MacLeish.

Vice President MacLeish was elected in the House 424 votes to 9 opposing votes. At the time of season one, MacLeish was main Vice President in the show. MacLeish is currently deceased after an assassination. His predecessor for the office is unknown and died when an unknown terrorist attack blew up the Capitol at the State of the Union.

Under the 25th amendment, the vice president is the highest ranking member in the presidential line of succession. This was demonstrated when MacLeish became acting president when President Tom Kirkman underwent surgery after he'd been shot in an assassination attempt. It was later revealed that MacLeish was part of the conspirators behind the capitol bombing. He was also behind the assassination attempt so that he could carry out a plot for himself to be president.
